I have 3 years of industry experience but need public audit experience for my CPA sign-off. I’m actively applying, and thought my corporate background would be an asset, but the feedback I keep getting from firms is that my background is too industry-focused. Is anyone else experiencing this?

been in industry (small companies) for 5 years with an active CPA. Wanted to get in SEC reporting roles but almost every company requires 2-year public accounting exp. Now applying for public accounting firms entry level positions but almost all firms HR asked if I had ever worked in firms. Got rejection emails from firms all the time. Is this a dead lock? firms exp matters much more than a CPA license?
