Accept that this client isn’t a match for you. You’ve got to control the client relationship. My ex boss would get that from time to time and he’d been practicing for 50 years. He’d simply explain most of those “bull dog” lawyers were bad lawyers and they’d annoy the judge and everyone else which would hurt their case and that he wasn’t going to stoop to their levels. Tell the client that while it might be entertaining for the clients, for the other lawyers involved, it hurts their case and reduces your side’s credibility and that lawyering is not like television.
You may have to let this client go as they’re incompatible with how you practice, and there’s nothing wrong with how you practice.
Thanks. I agree. I have spent the weekend thinking it over and plan on having a conversation with the client this week, explaining that I'm not a "bull dog" attorney and if that is what they want they will need to find another attorney.
I appreciate the advice and support.
Was it a criminal or civil matter?
Why is this a discovery motion, a motion to dismiss or something trial-based?
