I totally get this. Rip tides can be dangerous. I once almost drowned because of a rip tide. I’m now scared of the ocean because of that incident. How I deal with it: I try to enjoy it in the shallow areas. There are also ways to identify where there is a rip tide based on how the waves break.
Thanks. It really was.
Rip tides are scary but luckily we don’t get them here in phoenix!
Yep, it is the sun that is dangerous!
LOL
I used to fear rip tides as a kid and I'd always ask my Dad how far out in the water it would take me before it'd stop. Thankfully we don't get those in Phoenix but if we did, I was always told to swim out to the sides rather than with or against the tide. On the shore, I usually spot riptides based on if water rolling back out splashes in waves against water coming in. Sometimes it leaves a deep channel in the sand too in which case I walk down the shore and swim somewhere else.
I do this too! It's almost like a science to it.
I try to watch what I consume and what I allow my kids to watch. It's amazing the way just watching one tv show or movie can cause these deep fears for the rest of our lives
I actually don't know how to swim so I stay far away from any tides.
