Sounds like it might be a basic Econ ticket? If that’s the case it’s luck of the draw, only real way you would sit togeather is if it’s young kids.
Yeah it most likely is

I would just risk it
Also it's not because you booked it through Chase. It's because all non-E+/preferred seats are selected or you have BE
My guess is that when I booked it via chase it chooses basic economy.
Follow up: when is the seat assigned? My flight is on Friday morning so I technically check in tomorrow morning. Would seat assignments happen at check in or like an hour before departure?

At gate if the flight is oversold
You won’t get premium economy, at check in everyone with any level of status will get to take those seats, so you’ll get the vacated basic economy seats
What? That’s exactly what I said, people currently taking up all the basic economy seats will move up at check in, so OP will end up on a basic economy seat
They usually sit the family together, done that many times.. if they assign you random seat, you can always talk to the gate agent and 90% of times they honor your request. $350 for round trip, just for preselecting your seats sounds a lot - it’s like one domestic ticket someplace
if it's all purchased together, they'll seat you together if there is availability. seat assignment is done when you check in
