A rule of thumb is to take your last annual salary and divide that figure by 125 for your day rate. Divide that by 8 for your hourly rate. Multiply your day rate by five for your weekly rate.
Those figures are your max rate, so be prepared to take 10% less for smaller agencies, good creative opportunities or longer term gigs
Eg. if you earned 100K fulltime, you’ll get up to $800 per day freelance.
This means you’ll make your previous salary if you work for 50% of the year. Which is normal.
Also if the freelance gig might run on so be willing to drop your day rate if you think you’ll get a longer contract.
From what I’ve seen
ACD 1100-1500/d
CD 1500-2k/d
(Approximately)
These numbers are only realistic at big agencies and likely if you live in big cities. The last time I made 1500 a day was 5 years ago. 1200 is even pushing it nowadays
I would also be prepared with an hourly rate. That’s becoming more of the norm. For an ACD (for Midwest) you may want to be between 125-150per/hr. Also, learn to be flexible with your rate.
Sorry to hear this. What’s your location? It’s a determining factor.
