I have over 25 years in insurance in claims and underwriting, and other departments, customer service, a bachelor’s degree and AIC, AIS and AINS, but it’s hard to find another job. Employers say I don’t have commercial, worker’s compensation, or bodily injury experience which is true but I have all the he transferable skills and abilities to do the job. I am licensed in multi states and take continuing education all the time. What can I do?

I’d consider getting your foot on the door at a TPA where you’re guaranteed commercial exposure. I was at a TPA for a little over a year which was enough to get me the commercial experience on paper and I’ve since left and I’m working for a carrier again but strictly on high exposure commercial accounts.

Thank you very much, I will try that as that sound like it would give me the experience needed in commercial, if they will consider my experience as transferrable. I believe my experience is transferable for certain.

It is insane that you have those certificates and that level of experience and you’re still being shown the door. Sorry, I can only be sympathetic. I have no idea what they want if you’re not It.

like

Thank you very much, that’s is what I am trying to figure out. It is so hard trying to prove my skills are transferable.

It sounds like you have some really great experience. Have you tried looking to see if Allstate is hiring? They are a great company to work for speaking from personal experience.

Thanks, I have put in for a few sales positions through remote work but not at the carrier level. I will try that. I appreciate the advice.

I have been talking to a recruiter for a little over a month about a position. I let her know out the gate that I really wasn’t looking to change jobs, but she just kept wanting to continuing the conversation. I didn’t have 2 interviews with the hiring coming and they know that I am not really looking to make a switch. They are now working on an offer letter and I know they’re going to offer me more money. I’m having my annual review this week. Any advice on how to handle a) job offer b) review?
