Good morning. I am currently a senior associate in BugLaw, and I have applied to several trial attorney jobs in Chicago offices of federal agencies since the start of the pandemic. According to usajobs.gov, my applications to the DOJ and CFTC were “referred,” and my application to the SEC was received and my GS scale verified. But I haven’t received any updates on these applications in over a month. Does anyone here have any insights on these or on federal hiring generally? Thanks!

Yes. They might be hoping you have changed the expectation. Also possible they have adjusted their ranges. Could be they are getting mixed signals from their leadership as to what they want/need and are pulling at straws.
Insufficient information to be sure of their motives. Personally, I would proceed with the interview for practice. It sounds like a decent shop to work for if they are willing to reach out to you, months later, for a discussion.
Thank you. Definitely going to go through with the interview, figured it doesn’t hurt. It’s a panel of 3 senior leaders, so I can’t imagine they’d waste all of their time if they couldn’t make a reasonable offer, but I suppose everything’s possible.
Well I had the interview. I think it went well. 🤞🏼
If you don’t have another job than they might think you will take it. If you do they are hoping the package is enough to carry you through.
They know I have a current job, they reached out to me and asked me to apply, I did not apply first.
