Out of curiosity, how do firms treat tattoos and piercings? I have five tattoos and it’s never been an issue (they’re small and I can cover most up), but I’m at a mid-size firm in a small Canadian city and was surprised to meet a fairly senior associate from a national firm with a nose ring, and we recently hired a lawyer with a sleeve (which he also mostly covers). Is it a regional thing? I always figured I’d have to cover up but on the odd occasion mine have been noticed it’s been positive!

This is more of a venting post than anything else. Are other software companies willing to give someone with less accolades on their resume a chance anymore? Or is this all a flashy experience show off game? It’s frustrating and demoralizing to know that I have plenty of experience and am willing to learn skills I don’t know but have received multiple rejections. And it may just be that my resume sucks but I haven’t received any bad feedback from those who’ve looked at it. Any insight or advice?
