My first year I kept a pair of dress shoes at my desk that I'd change into and out of. After awhile I realized it truly didnt matter to anyone. I like Ecco boots (men), which are attractive but also super sturdy and practical. Have worn boots to work for over 10 years now.
Can confirm, Oak Street is a great investment. Only will get more comfortable and look better with time
Cole Haan has some comfy waterproof boot choices at reasonable prices that can do double-duty as snow boots and workshoes.
Definitely Thursday boots. They are highly water resistant and depending on the style/color combo you could definitely dress them up to business casual.
Blundstone has some sleeker boots and they're indestructible. Also RM Williams if you want to splurge.
RM Williams are far too nice to be “winter boots”
Don’t sleep on sorel, so warm
I walk to work daily, about 25m and I absolutely wear snow boots. I keep a change of shoes in my office, or will bring a pair with me if I want something different.
I like my sorels best, I also have those dorky plasticy short Uggs for light snow.
Sorels!
Johnston and Murphy is not the brand it once was, which stinks, BUT, their XC4 line is excellent for men. I’ve used the XC4 Chelsea boots for years now and have gotten several compliments on their styling (personally I think they look just good enough but do go with everything). You will want to try them on with suit pants, as they may be slightly too bulky for that unfortunately. They are very well waterproofed, especially if you spray them with waterproofing once a year, have solid traction, and you can easily get away with a thick wool hiking sock for insulation if necessary on bitter cold days.
This way there’s no worrying about second pairs of shoes/changing and simultaneously no worrying about ruining a pair of nice leather shoes. These boots have become my beaters for the bars as well, and with the occasional suede cleaning, stay looking great. Regardless of what you go with I definitely recommend the single pair option over a second pair at work, that’s just a hassle, and their are enough options out there that it’s unnecessary imo.
Nicer looking waterproof boots.
Allen Edmonds has some good choices.
Timbaland hiking boots
No one asked you Boston consulting group 1
I have a pair of dressy leather Ugg boots, Thursday boots, and dark grey All Birds for a more casual dress as they are waterproof
would recommend. I think it’s a solid boot for the price range. have a pair of presidents and will probably get another pair of chukkas
Get a good pair of bean boots and bring your shoes in your bag/backpack. Or if you want to just cover your dress shoes these can be a good option (for rain not snow). https://www.tingleyrubber.com/products/dress-rubber-overshoe-trim
I keep a pair of nice bit loafers in a locker at the office and wear lugged red wings boots when I walk from west loop to the office
I used to have shoes at the office and could wear snow boots if really bad. Otherwise, I’d wear rubber “shoe condoms” or galoshes over my dress shoes. They are like $20/pair. Looks goofy in the commute but who cares.
honestly, the snow isn’t that bad. when it does snow, it’s usually cleared from sidewalks pretty quickly. the bigger issue is the mud/dirt (and the cold) and not wanting to get your nice shoes all dirty.
The salt will ruin shoes
Now I leave shoes under my desk. When I was in consulting I’d carry a pair of heels in my laptop bag, which is probably easier for a woman with small feet vs someone with larger shoes/feet. Im looking at Blondos or Sofft or some other brands of stylish, waterproof boots for my commute.
Im working from home if it snows too much
Timbalands are the way to go.
I wear Timberland workboots - so great!
Work from home😁
Leave the nice pair at the office, always just locked mine into a cabinet drawer. Then wear a pair of black waterproof rockports or similar for the commute.
