I just started a multi year project with a team that includes a few male leaders that are blatantly rude, demeaning, and just generally awful to deal with. Every single thing is a fight, down to how emails sent by staff should be framed up. I am technically their peer or equivalent. How do I manage through? I am demoralized and ready to lose it after just a few weeks.

Watch, listen, and be as logical and calm as possible - you are probably being tested and they are waiting for a reaction. Document everything and don’t have any “offline” conversations, get all commitments in writing and follow up in ream meetings (especially if your manager or senior leaders are present). Bonus points if you can do all this with a smile and a gentle tone 😉.

I’m so sorry you are dealing with such a challenging team. What are people’s roles? It almost sounds like no one is in charge!

I am about to leave my current organization and I have several thousand in outstanding commission owed to me. There’s no reason you have to put up with a job you hate. I spent many years working in a toxic environment with a boss who gossiped and lead through fear. He wasn’t really much of a leader but basically a foreman. And he could make my existence miserable. I admit that it wasn’t easy to find another job but the bottom line is: trust your guts. If you feel something is wrong it’s because it probably is. Don’t second guess yourself. Look for options and and fight for your mental health.

I just picked up a new freelance gig after coming out (again 😮‍💨) but professionally and they're really respecting my pronouns! They did a whole thing where they're having people add their pronouns to their email signature too 🥰

They never make a deal out of it and if they mess up they correct and move right along. They're from the Midwest and some of the team is older too so its really nice 😅

Just wanted to share the good news and say it very much is possible to have people respect them☺️

How do I be a decent manager to a coworker who's upset I've been promoted twice in two years and they haven't? We started out as coworkers, became decent friends after a few good moments, but went back to simply coworkers after they flubbed a few projects and I had to step in to clean up. I'm non-confrontational but year-end reviews are right around the corner and I'm worried about having to act professional to someone who I got too close with and who now hates me.

Just discovering RSD after being diagnosed as an adult. I feel like SO MUCH of my life has been impacted by this and I just never had a name for it. At work if someone gives me negative or constructive feedback it can feel like a punch in the chest even if I know it's not personal. Makes romantic relationships so hard too. What do you do to handle it especially at work?

Junior here. How common is it to be nudged off a brief when you can't get ideas through internally? My partner and I are often put on the same briefs as more experienced (sometimes senior) teams. As a result, their work tends to make it through to the client presentation while most of ours dies somewhere along the way from CD to CCO. Is this worth worrying over?
