Dude the mental backflips some of you go through to justify the real life consequences your actions have on juniors is mind blowing

I did not mean to offend. I’m just trying to get through to you. My approach is to avoid the people who are in a routine of sacrificing too much of their lives for the job because they expect the same from me. It does not have to be this way. If you’re working with partners who constantly expect this from you, work with new partners.

Or is it that you went through it, so it’s only fair to put everyone else through it?

I wasn’t permitted to add more attorneys to the deal, I worked more than any of them in any case, I pushed for them not to get staffed on new stuff when other partners didn’t care about their capacity, and I took on their work and covered for them when they needed me to. Aim this at partners, my guy.

Oh I thought you were providing a list of examples of mental backflips but you were serious LOL 🙅‍♀️

like

No mental backflips necessary. You expect me to do your work in addition to mine so you can clock out at 7PM?

It’s hopeless to argue with someone like A2. They’ve drank the kool aid and in some way feel they’re more important by living this lifestyle. Let them stew in their own nonsense

I recently had a specialist partner send me a fairly nasty email after I (a transactional first year) was told to ask them to review something ASAP that had clearly been on my partner’s radar for over a week. I am seeing too many post about awards like rising star, Kudos, etc. People keep telling there managers recommended them for these awards.
My manager doesn't interact much with us. I consider myself as some one who has worked hard for project and other intiatives. Should I ask my manager to consider me and if yes how should I initiate it.

Curiosity question - I’m a naturally very chatty senior and I’ve noticed that the staff 1s who are starting remotely and living at their parents’ home (which makes a ton of sense with the remote working) that I’ve been working with seem to want to chat about both semi related work stuff and non work stuff a fair amount. If you’re a staff living at home, do you enjoy having seniors who will chat with you about random things or would you rather just get your work done and log off?

Should I complain to a firm's HR if the interviewers laughed at my answer during an interview? Maybe it sounded scripted but it was still heartfelt and genuine: my immigration story and how that made me appreciate the rule of law. I said it soo many times during OCI's that maybe it eventually sounded robotic, but for the interviewers to laugh and one to say sarcastically "nice elevator pitch", I thought was rude. Thoughts?

Serious billing question - if during the course of the day, you first receive an email from Client A at say 11:10am and you read it, you then respond to it at 12:20pm. You get another email at 2pm from Client A and respond immediately. The next email comes in at 4pm, you read it and respond only at 4:30pm. None of the email responses take more than 3-5mins. You are working on matters for other clients at all other times during the day. How much are you billing for Client A?

I’m currently a 2nd year associate in commercial finance. I’ve realized I don’t enjoy a a strictly transactional practice. I enjoyed litigation matters as a summer (particularly the adversarial nature). Also, love talking and advising clients. I don’t want the litigation lifestyle and appreciate the in-house opportunities of transactional. Assuming that I could switch (or lateral), I’m thinking I may enjoy employment (and the ability to defend and train/advise). I appreciate any insight.

Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much. It’s discouraging sometimes especially because I worked so hard with pretty much no guidance (first gen, poc, low-income) to get into college and do well and then get into a t30 law school
