I keep hearing mixed opinions about networking in tech job searches, where some people say it is absolutely essential and others say they got hired without it. I swear I go to those events and it’s just all people looking for jobs. From your experience, is networking actually necessary right now or just helpful? And how would you realistically start if you do not know anyone in the industry?

I just moved to Microsoft and got a large 350k stock grant, at a near all time price high ~300/share. It beats over 4 years. Is there any option play I can use to protect my self against stock drops to lock in the 350k?

At what point are you too specialized to lateral to internal audit? How does contract to hire work? If I’m offered $37/hr on w2 for 3 months and then possibly a permanent position, how much can I expect to get annually as a full time company employee as a BI data analyst II? I have a M.S. and certificates in DA but this will be my first job as DA.
I prefer working for what is offered on contract without negotiating, and then negotiate when I transition into the company itself so I have a better chance of getting the contract position and show my skills.
