I keep hearing the siren song of in-house life. But I’m nervous about getting pigeonholed into one industry and capping my earning potential long-term. I’m a 5th-year associate, and some days it feels like in-house is the escape hatch I desperately need. If you made the jump, do you regret it, or was it the best decision you ever made? Would you trade the paycheck and variety for sanity?

Do it. No amount of prestige or money is worth being miserable—life’s too short to die at your desk.

I love to hear this. I am pretty miserable ngl and I think it has to do with firm culture

Idk how much money matters to you, but everyone in biglaw acts like in house lawyers are poor… many of us are not

Depends on the job

In-house isn’t easier (in some ways it might be harder), it’s just different.

But if you can adapt to being a business partner then it can be very rewarding. No I don’t make as much as I would in a firm. But $300k TC for 20 hours of work/week is nothing to sneeze at…

The partners are pretty great and feedback is constructive which I’m grateful for, but I’m so desperate for a compliment I’ve been saving any scrap of positivity in a folder 😭 it’s December 22 and I haven’t done my Christmas shopping because I don’t feel capable of thinking about it.
