I think it's knowing there's a light at the end of the tunnel that is stress relieving so you can focus better without it overwhelming you nearly as much. I just secured an offer myself and am feeling so much better about getting through my workload right now even though there's still a ton!
I agree with this. When there is light at the end of the tunnel your productivity definitely spikes.
It’s the lack of sleep and working longer hours than necessary. The hours mean less at some point and most B4 people up through the ranks have never experienced anything different. B4 busy season is unhealthy. I’m in advisory now but I remember my audit days - 4 hours of sleep, 7 cups of coffee, feeling like an absolute drone. Now that I work closer to 40-50 hours I feel like I’m crushing it.
Best of luck to you!

More hours doesn't equal being more efficient. Trying to get people to log a certain number of hours has always been dumb. Good job getting out.
I don’t know. Were you?
Wow interesting to see the big audit firm grind has not changed in almost 40 yrs, sadly. Back in 87 I was an auditor at a big 4 firm out of college, in nyc. The commute to long Island back and forth was a grind plus major hours. I vividly recall working about 35 days straight without a day off and leaving my wall st client at 11pm on a Sunday towards the end of that streak and feeling guilty that when I left there was still 15 people there! On the drive home I thought holy crap this is unsustainable and maybe I picked the wrong profession lol. The next morning (Mon) I was at the main office and bumped into a friend of mine who I started with. Felling sorry for myself I said Carl can you believe I have worked 35 days straight, to which he replied "that's it? I'm on my 67th straight day at my at&t audit!" I was luck wrf then I felt bad for him and felt lazy lol. Not a fun time
Billable hours, if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
Is it that bad working at Deloitte with late nights ?🫣🫣

No, you've worked on these audits before you're just getting more efficient. Plus, you're happier, you're excited about your new job and your good mood is showing in your work and motivation.
