If you’re going into accounting, and accounting focus (ie tax/audit/technical role) then a MBA is not worth it or needed. If you’re looking for a strategy role, then yes, MBA is probably recommended
While I would generally agree with pwc1 and manager1, OP did make a telling comment - GPA less than 3 from a school that is not well ranked is likely to cause concern with recruiters
That said, passing the CPA is a huge achievement.
A degree from an accredited school is likely worth it, but not sure I’d do MBA. Maybe consider masters in accounting?
CPA here. My undergrad is poly sci. No masters
Got 150 hours including 24 accounting and 24 business
If you are a CPA, then you absolutely DON'T need a masters degree. No one cares. The CPA is the part that everyone will look at. Don't waste your money or time.
I am from another country as well and recently passed the US CPA exam. I don't have work experience here in the US and have been a stay-at-home parent for 6 years now. It's hard to land a job.
No CPA but w degree in accounting
The MBA in professional accounting is intended for those who don’t have an undergraduate degree in accounting but want to transition to an accounting career. It’s not your traditional MBA program. You may need to take certain accounting courses to meet the criteria to become licensed. If you also want to get a shot at working at a big firm, then the MBA program might be a good option. The other pro is that you can get it in 14 months.
