is 14 months that short of a tenure? i never really thought so but im also not a recruiter
I have a job on my resume that was only one year, and nobody ever questions it. They may not even ask about it, and I wouldn't bring attention to it if they don't.
Frame it in a positive way. “I am looking for X, Y, and Z. That firm didn’t offer it.” Basically, it’s more about you than them. It’s a big red flag for us when people bash prior employees, so steer clear of that line.
We are pretty clear in our firm, up front, who is a good fit and who is a bad fit.
Also, 14 months isn’t crazy. Don’t overthink this. If you had 6 jobs in 4 years, I start to question.
I would only provide feedback if asked. But if you feel the need to address it, I'd explain it as you were left for an opportunity to better aligns with your career goals.
You could spin it as how it helped you to get clarity on what culture or processes are important to you.
For example, I left and went back to my old firm within 6 months. I was able to explain my decision by talking about how I realized how important being part of a team working to a common goal was. Being an individual contributor (what I left for) wasn’t at all what I wanted.
Don't bring it up unless asked, especially since 14 months is not that short. If asked, go with the trusty "I am looking for a job with more opportunity for growth"
