Hey ad1 chill with the no savings talk... everbody is different and you couldn’t sound more pompous telling someone what they should be able to afford.
Can you delay a start date with company 2? 3 weeks isn’t that long. And if you do win the pitch... well, you’ll probably burn a bridge with company 2, but it’s not unheard of to turn down an offer you’ve already accepted.
Take the pitch work. Work super hard. Make sure you're buddying up to everyone, especially the CDs and ACDs...and don't forget to make friends with the recruiter and Resource Manager. They'll remember you for the next pitch even if they lose.
Tell them, yes, would love to take the job, but have current freelance commitment for the next three weeks. Take job one, try and see
Always the sure thing. Especially if you are over 30
...if they win, this will result in a full time contract.
The 2nd agency is in need of someone with my skills and want to discuss a longer term contract - but, i like them less.
Although i like the 2nd agency less, if i turn them down and i go for the pitch, and we loose, i will end up having nothing.
I feel like taking the risk and go for the pitch agency, just because i want to work there. How can I negotiate best so I have more certainty on a longer term contract before we start working on the pitch?
Thanks!
Work on pitch and delay start of second company.
The pitch company won’t hire you because it’s end of year and they’re slow to hit anyone end of year beginning of new year
**able to put through the hire
Are you a Senior Art Director with no savings? You should be able to take the risk and do the contracted work for the agency you really want to work at. If they don’t win the business, they can’t attribute 100% of the blame to you. Maybe they will like your style and keep you in mind down the road.
I would highly advise working somewhere just for a paycheck. May I ask why you even applied at the second agency if you are not excited to work there,
@ACD 1, I didn’t mean to belittle the OP as I understand everyone’s situation is different. Given their current title, I was inquiring whether they had an emergency fund to help them with their decision making process.
A creative can be more flexible and have better job opportunities if they have some savings put away. Regardless of OP’s current situation, I would encourage they start one if they haven’t done so already so they could open the door to new opportunities in the future (e.g. being picky with your job choices, relocation, etc.)
If they win the pitch it still takes time to get scope signed and actually make the hire. If you can hang for that time that’s great. But don’t be surprised if it takes a while to go from awarding the win to actually being about to put through the hire.
Do the pitch. And maybe consider becoming a Freelancer. If you’re skilled and have connections you’ll make more $$ and have more flexibility and time off.
