I’m pretty sure one partner in my group likes me and I’m her go-to associate, but another seems to hate me and is mildly annoyed with everything I do. It’s my first time working with the later extensively - how might this play out in my annual review? Already worried I’m going to get penalized by the one (despite him continuing to give me work)

Maybe that's just his (unfortunate) personality? Some attorneys are highly insecure jerks and treat everyone poorly. If that's the case and the person gives everyone mediocre to poor reviews, it won't reflect too negatively on you since it's the norm.

You should try to fill your plate as much as possible with work from the first partner (or others) so when the latter reaches out, you can say you’re at capacity already. If that doesn’t work, and she still staffs you, you can just be a bit more annoying to the point that she doesn’t wanna staff you anymore. Another way is to go on a long vacation and you can find coverage for latter partner’s matters and just try to offload your work permanently.

Good luck!

Is CPA crucial to break into banking?

I am going to work as Audit Associate at KPMG in 2023. I am thinking to stay there for more than a year, then make an attempt into banking. I really hate the CPA exams for its soul-crushing elements. I am rather planning to break into the top MBA programs at the time. I have financial resources to do so but I feel quite mixed after getting the Macc for KPMG position without pursuing the CPA.

Are you responsible for giving performance feedback? Avoid giving personality based feedback. Examples include telling an Asian person they are too quiet/shy or telling a Black person they are agressive/abrasive. DO NOT DO THIS. It clearly represents bias in Performance Management. Performance feedback should be tied to business outcomes with clear examples of what the person does well + how they can improve.
