This is typical PR agency life. Chaotic and no onboarding. I prefer structure so I feel your pain and think it is a major gap for agencies. I’d suggest proactively building your own onboarding. Set meetings with key team members to brief you in different areas / talk you through processes, ask questions. One thing I’ve seen is a doc outlining details and nuances around each client, deep dive on their business etc. Just be clear and direct about what you need! Also if your responsible for leading a team, talk to each person, identify what’s blocking them / where they need support, talk to clients and do the same - then map out what problems you can solve, where you can step in and take on tasks, how you can help guide the team.
AE to AD is a big jump and you’ve skipped a few roles in between. I would be honest and upfront about where you feel you need to learn and set realistic objectives and a plan to achieve them with your boss.
