I recently took a trip to go hiking for a few days in a national park. It was so refreshing and rejuvenating. It’s like I had to go away and get into nature to find myself, and then I could choose to bring home that new version of me.

There's nothing like getting out in nature for a hard mental reset. There's something about being outside and physically exerting myself that always brings a feeling of peace and contentment. I've got a trip to Utah planned this fall and I cannot wait to get out there - which park did you end up visiting??

I went to Acadia in Maine. Fun fact: I actually live in Utah! Where are you planning on visiting?

I go scuba diving. Same feeling

My scuba equipment is dry rotting in the garage, haha, but I totally understand. Neutral buoyancy underwater with cool surroundings can be so peaceful and awesome.

That's wonderful! The National Parks are always a great refuge. But just about any form of nature can do at times. It's good to go away and come back and feel like you've brought some of it with you. What you say resonates, we really can find a new version of ourselves by being in the natural world.

Nature can get us out of ourselves and focus on the moment.

That looks amazing!! I agree, it's so refreshing and rejuvenating to go on hikes or do different activities in nature, I always feel more settled after I do. Now that summer is here I'm trying to make the effort to do something in nature at least once a week.

Just a rant. The subway is my primary mode of transportation. Without fail, there is always at least 1 person - usually 2 - unmasked. I looked at an unmasked woman when the reminder announcement was made and she shouted, “whatchu lookin at?”. I said, “ignorance and selfishness apparently”. Look, I don’t want to wear a mask either, but it’s required and we are all in this together. I wish the MTA would enforce this.

I might have a spending problem. I don’t think (?) I have a full blown addiction, but I’m cleaning out my closet and finding stuff that is few years old, still with the tags on, and lots of duplicates. I get a dopamine hit when I find a good deal and I’m wondering if it’s going too far. I can pay my bills, but I’m wasting a lot of $$ on things I don’t need. I have multiple family members who are/were addicts and hoarders and my own behavior is making me nervous. Any other big shoppers out there?

Wondering whether anybody’d be interested in some kind of more purposeful community- i.e., gathering w/fellow lawyers to pursue some specific mental health & well-being goals? We’d provide some counseling/coaching type content, in bite sized chunks, but have regular discussions to connect & encourage one another on applying the content IRL.

Looking for motivation to get me to my first Alcohol rehab appointment.

1st of all: I’m super inspired by this bowl. I’m now mid-30s and recently went 50+ days without drinking and felt good/productive. (Longest streak since before turning 21) But how do you stick with it? I’m conflicted bc I haven’t hit a “rock bottom” and part of me loves a glass of wine to unwind and mark the end of the workday, but I also have a hard time stopping once I start (no such thing as 1 glass). Feel boarder-line between these 2 worlds and unsure where to go. Anyone feel similar?

This past Wednesday (the 24th), was 3 years of sobriety for me.

In 15 years of weekend binge/blackout drinking, NEVER had I gone more than 3 weeks without a drink (typically never more than 1 weekend without a drink), and now my sobriety is counted in years (though still one day at a time).

I am beyond grateful and I know that this is something I could never do on my own.

I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who shares in this group. It truly helps me stay sober. I am approaching 12 months sober but have been struggling lately. While I have not relapsed, I’ve been close. Normally, before I get out of bed, I write down my reason to stat sober for the day, but lately the reasons have been lousy at best. But reading about everyone’s struggles and successes has helped get me through this past month. So thank you all for the inspiration to keep going strong!

I left my last job because I didn't appreciate the culture (B4). However, it was probably because I was a terrible employee. However, I do find that my clients love me 10x more than my consulting colleagues. I joined a smaller firm to cover up the problem.

Any advice is appreciated.
