I saw a TikTok talking about not wanting to eat what people bring to office potlucks because they don’t trust it. People in the comments overwhelmingly agreed. It isn’t something I have thought much about personally. What do others think?

I've seen those as well, and I think it's all a little bit overblown and dramatic. Most people maintain a baseline level of cleanliness. If you see something that looks unappetizing, don't eat it. But assuming everybody else is "dirty" is weird and kind of elitist and judgmental.

Collective trust in a neighborhood table can feel like an exercise in shared risk assessment.

Back in the day, potlucks were seen as shared bounty or community building through shared tastes. Despite reservations about casseroles, if a dish smelled good, its safety was assumed. "Mystery meat" was something to joke about — while eating.

Lately, there's more hyper-individualized calculus. People worry about food allergies, diet restrictions, how to label dishes, and what trust to place in coworkers. If you're looking at it as a gathering of unlicensed food handlers trading borrowed dishes at a shared table... It's understandable. When I was young, dishes were labeled to keep them from "walking away," not because they might contain tree nuts or milk products.

Coworkers today may be a bit polarized to share in an era of "communicable disease denial" and dietary diversity. Finding dishes that everyone can eat can be a logistical nightmare, not just due to worries about "oregano" in the brownies.

Paying too much attention to TikTok is like asking someone 'How stupid are you?' and then they go and demonstrate.

Remember, there are many people who devoutly believe the medical advice they get there.

This just reconfirms my belief that 95% of what you see on the internet has no basis in reality. I've been at a couple of work potlucks and never once seen people looking askance at what their coworkers bring in. I'd honestly be happy if it started gaining traction IRL. More food for me!

I have seen that debate and I get both sides. I think most office potlucks run on trust and familiarity. If someone feels uncomfortable, they can quietly opt out. I would not let social media make it bigger than it needs to be.

Shame, used to be everyone was so happy to share their favorite dishes!

I just worry about people not washing their hands and handling and fixing the foods. That's just really gross!!! We had a friend one time who took a poop and didn't wash her hands afterwards. Now who would want to eat her homemade meatloaf after her hands were mixing and squishing all the the hamburger mixture lol. I see so many people walk out of restrooms not washing their hands and people will cough into their hands then touch everything. Im like WOW!!!!

I used to like potlucks, but then my husband introduced me to some friends. We went over to their house for chicken and dumplings and she actually had tents on her countertop little tiny ones that she would put over her food to keep her cats out out of the dinner when she would leave the kitchen after that no can-do just remember not everybody cooks the way we do not. Everybody keeps a clean countertop the way most of us do and then there is another thing to think about how many times does the person making the food wash their hands so that’s me no thanks to random food free or not.

It used to be that you could trust everyone 50 years ago. You could trust that everyone knew how to keep things clean and everything. But nowadays, I'm not sure you can do that. Luckily, I have always worked in a small office where you only had a handful of people. You knew everyone and you trusted them all, or if you didn't trust someone you knew exactly what they brought.

Hi,
I need some career guidance.
I have 6+ yoe in business intelligence(Qlik), SQL. Self taught python up to oops/pandas/re.
What's the best direction to take my career forward and transition into a better domain if possible?
Should I do some DS/ML or cloud(azure/gcp) courses? If yes, suggest some.
I get calls for python but they demand scraping & webdev(selenium/bs/django/flask) which I have no interest in.
Can someone guide?
Also, what are the best BI roles I can go for & how?
Thanks

3. Spacious apartment
Please suggest if you know a good apt.
