I have tried and tried to make the transition and never get a second interview even though I have lions in my book. They just want graphic designers and fashion people. I don’t think they understand that the work we do in agencies and our perspective would translate beautifully in editorial and fashion. Sigh.

The tittle of Art Director in an editorial role is as different from us (advertising Art Director s) as an Art Director in a film crew. We’re visually conceptual creatives, ADs in editorial are closer to graphic designers.
