If you can’t make a social post without AI you’re probably not cut out for any of this
We’ve been doing it without AI for 5 months now. It just takes big chunks of time from my partner which makes it hard to get a good brand campaign brief. It’s also very unrewarding work especially since it’s one of the most difficult clients at our agency. I know I sound like I’m complaining but i’m genuinely curious because this topic is rarely discussed at my agency.

References are fine.
But all the models out there were trained on stolen art.
All gen-AI is using stolen data. If you use it, you are supporting theft and copyright infringement. That’s the ethics part.
The other part is doing something behind your manager’s back. That is always ill-advised - so secret stays that way for long.
Tracing reference is fine
Welcome to being an AD
Despite what everyone who loves AI thinks, people are looking for authentic now more than ever. And AI generated images isn’t it. Not good to use for social.
If they’re comps to sell in an idea, fine. If they’re public-facing and actually being posted on social, not fine. The reason your company doesn’t allow it is because of the risk of legal repercussions if you use one of the AI models that are trained on general artists’ work. That being said, there are AI models that your company should be ok with using and get with the times a bit.
One of these days you gonna be that manager. You figure it out.
