Same. When I was 17 I did NOT want to go to college but wanted something professional and sustainable so I literally walked into a local office and said what do I need to do this? They hired me for filing, etc and fast forward 20 years. I spent all of that on the agency side, mostly in sales and now I oversee operations for a large independent agency!
Insurance can be golden handcuffs
Similar. Needed a job, found a job, stayed with that job for 11 years. Tried to move on to something else and found myself at another insurer and then another and then...
I tried getting away and applying for other industries but the opportunities keep dragging me back into insurance.
48 years and love it! Two sectors, 27 as a commercial broker and 21 on the client side in Risk Management.
From pi broker, to underwriting assistant x3 to senior operations analyst to ba
Actually love the industry but hate the monotony of phone sales. Trying to move into UW
Very very real sentiment, I moved into retention and support because of the little-love, lotta-hate relationship with sales
Pretty much same for me too
Same for me. Went from legal assistant to director of risk management over a 14 year period. I love it.
Same! Been 14 years in claims now. Literally took the job because I was burnt out from retail and it was a means to an end of retail and offered Monday - Friday from 830-5 with nights, holidays, and weekends off. It pays better than I ever thought I’d make too. So that’s a plus!
Was doing restoration work and dealing with insurance from the other side. Found out the insurance side makes more money and not labor intensive and well here I am better health and not working 24/7.
I also stumbled into insurance. Just wanted out of retail and wasn't being picky. 37 years now.
I stumbled into it too. Similar story. I worked for a hospital while I was in college. Ended up in medical records where I learned basic coding and terminology. That made me valuable to a health insurance carrier and the rest is history. I’m bored with it now but my age has a lot to do with that. For years I was very engaged. Tried a couple other things in between, but didn’t like them and went right back.
Same, I filed out an application that I thought was for a banking position little did I know it was for insurance. I even took time away from work insurance and found myself back in to it. It was the best decision I ever made
Stumbled into the family business at 16 and am still here at 54. Now self employed producer but I love it.
