Quit and become a yoga teacher. That’s what I’m doing at least. It’s worth it to make less money to have my life and time back.
Did my YTT 200 in law school… (as part of a life hack involving mental well-being and mindfulness) just remember to give your instructors a feedback sandwich…and always remember to breathe 📿
Same. I enjoy the pay but man sometimes this shit sucks. Lol
It’s a weird dynamic. My non-lawyer friends are like damn I wish I made a lot of money like you lawyers. And I’m like damn, I wish I didn’t have to work on the weekends and could clock out at 4/5pm and not have to still be worrying about work late into the night. Lol
My response is usually that I still don’t make enough for what we have to sacrifice, that money isn’t everything, or something along those lines.
I represent public school districts all over Texas. Today I’m driving to a school for a meeting. I get to enjoy sunny days out of the office, drive though old town squares, count how many hawks I see on power lines (4 today), eat at awesome small town diners, and meet with friendly people who are trying to make the world a better place through education. Not all law is the same. Some practice areas have more face to face interaction with people away from the screen.
I work in private practice. We work as outside general counsel for districts that aren’t big enough to have in house counsel. We also help larger districts with things their in house counsel sends us. In addition to general counsel, we do litigation and public finance work for school districts. General counsel work is very veried: employment, student discipline, contracts, real estate, investigations, governance issues with the school board, economic development agreements (limitations on value of property for school property tax), constitutional issues like proper government searches of cars, freedom of speech and religion. No day is ever the same.
Find a way to make it work. Not all legal jobs involve staring at a screen. Or you can find a blue collar job. Most white collar jobs require a lot of computer use.
