We all experience burn-out. Never make decisions when you are feeling this way. If you need a vacation, take a vacation. Get some mental rest and see if you feel the same way. You may just need a little bit of a break. You may just need a change of scenery (different firm). You may need to get out of the firm world. You may need to get out of law.
But, don’t be rash in assessing what you need. It’s a serious decision so try to be as rational about it as you can be (Note: it’s very hard not to be steered by emotions here).
But, at the end of the day: while you should try to limit emotional influences on your calculus, you should heavily weight following your passion. Money follows passion, but passion doesn’t follow money. If money comes first: That way lies misery (and you will rarely succeed in maximizing your compensation if you aren’t following your passion - it’s just too hard for your smarts to carry you vs someone who is passionate).
Start looking. Reassess what slacking off means. Don’t jeopardize your license but prioritize your needs.
