Much more often than you think, the same thing happened to me. There is nothing like feeling at home
It definitely happens more often than not. After being deployed and seeing how other places work, I can genuinely say that there's no place I would rather be. My hometown has its faults for sure, but it's also comfortable and familiar. I'm grateful to have been able to experience so many different places in the world, but my hometown will always be my home.
It is not unusual for people to come to appreciate their hometowns more after having lived away from them for a time. Often, the things that once seemed mundane or boring take on a new perspective after having seen them through fresh eyes.
I'd say it happens more often than not. People who have been deployed usually appreciate it a lot more when they come back, and it's like they finally get to see all the good things about their home that they missed before.
I don't think it happens often, but when it does it's a beautiful thing. Coming back to my hometown and being surrounded by the people I love has given me a sense of peace that I haven't felt in a long time.
It can be hard to beat the feeling of familiarity after a deployment. Eventually, though, that feeling wears off and it's back to be boring for me.
