Hello, what is working in retail banking like at JPMorgan Chase ? Specially the branch manager role. I’m looking in the Columbus area. How is pay, culture, benefits, sales environment, meetings, etc. How easy is it to transition from retail banking to corporate. I hear the Polaris campus has great opportunities, I was thinking about getting my foot in the door through retail then transferring to corporate ?

There is a possibility that they brought you on as a SC intern, but felt your performed at the C level and need more time here. However, I would fully expect this to have been communicated with the rationale along with the return offer.
Whats the reputed university in toronto?? Im guessing york?
Anyways they should be bringing you in as Senior absolutely. I hate to say it but experience from India doesnt count for much but your MBA alone would put you in as a senior
These days MBA typically doesn’t get you senior

This is something worth checking with HR directly rather than going to the partners or similar. Ask for what the decision was due to.
However I will say that they do reserve the right to offer at a level they see fit based on performance or level coming out of the internship or to make a comp band fit. Unless you’re coming out of Rotman or Ivey, the leverage is often lower for the other schools because of the course rigor the other two schools have
the "Canadian Experience" is to demonstrate it before you deserve it but these days partners keep their bonuses by paying you less so answer is no
I just learnt today that they didn't give me the offer because I wasn't on project for first 1.5 months of my internship. That's so stupid reason. This whole time right from the day I joined, I kept on texting Partner and my PM that I need a project but they didn't give any. Then later during my internship I was able to find a project myself and now they are giving me this lame excuse.
This is so disgusting and frustrating. They are basically putting me at the same level as BBA fresh grad because of their own fault.
I told the partner clearly that start at entry level role would take my career backwards by more than 8 years, but they said this is the best they can do.
What would you guys suggest? Shall I accept the offer? I have tried negotiating but failed.
This offer is like a slap on my face.
I get you, I think I am over-reacting to the situation. Basically, whatever happened was totally unexpected, I didn't even thought of this outcome. When they told me they will get me a return offer, I automatically assumed that I will get it for SC. If they would have hired me as C intern and then give me C return offer, I would have no complains. In fact with current offer, I will get paid even less than one I am getting paid as an intern.
I think the only thing that made me overreact was the fact that other SC intern in my team got full time offer as SC. No hard feelings for him, in fact, I am very happy for him. I felt bad because the other person is also from same place as me but he didn't have consulting and industry experience. But still he got the offer which makes me even more worrying on what went wrong with mine.
But as you mentioned, I should move on and look for better opportunities. Thanks for responding and sharing your viewpoints 🙂
They’ve been doing this to MBA interns for years now, it’s a dirty trick that no other firm pulls. Leverage that consulting experience and start recruiting in January. It’s really not worth it imo, even if that means having to look for roles outside of consulting. Best of luck
Why would they do that?
