McKinsey & Company I received an offer from McKinsey & Company in 2021 and I’ll be starting later this year after graduation. Obviously because of the pandemic, inflation is slowly trending upwards. Has anyone asked for a base salary increase before even starting the job? Any advice on how to approach this?

Some years back most of us were using using cash for our daily transactions and some other methods which were not very convienient and quick. Fast forward UPI came which is super easy, fast, secure, available to all, even small shops. Now imagine u need to return money to someone who is in different city and that person denies online money transfer wants only cash stating that "Before UPI you used to come and give cash only right so why not do the same"
Great example . Also,no matter how much it is justified, companies will call employees to office and we have to obey. They will obey to the govt pressure. Nd we poor employees have no other option
In my village everyone used to walk 3km daily to get drinking water from well ..one day people found there is poison at the bottom in the water so they stopped going there so all people decided to build a new well and got an idea about having pipeline connections to their home and now they were so comfrtable and having a good water at their home which saved their energy and time which they started investing in other productive work.after 2 years this old well owner came back and said now i have removed all poision please start taking water again... but no one is intrested now
except the owner and people who live very close to well 😂😂
Wow superb answer...👏👏👏
Before automobiles were invented everyone used to walk. But after that everyone wants automobiles, why not just walk bro. Before phone was invented everyone sent letters but after phones evryone uses that, why not just letters now bruh. Before calculators everyone used pen and paper but after calculator was invented evryone uses that, why not just use pen and paper bruhhhh. Before we eveyone used to work on weekends too but then ford and unions brought the 5 day work week why not just work weekends too bro. Why not work at night too bro
Bruh aapto gussa hogye😬
Who said it's wrong to ask for WFO?
You can WFO if you want. Who's stopping you?
I will prefer to go to office once government stops performing covid testing...
Aadat lag gyi hai bhaisahab aur kya
Aadat tabi buri hogi jub usse hamara and hamare sath or bhi kisika bura ho.
Bhai sbki apni alag problems/situation hoti hain. You cant think from everyone else's perspective. If you want you can go buddy. Why are you worried about other people asking for that?

Most of the companies had huge rise in profits in 2021 & 2022 even when their employees were working from home. If they can achieve their target or finish their work by working from anywhere, why should companies drag them back to office.
Moreover covid hasn't gone anywhere. For the first time after pandemic started, i got covid when I started going back to my workplace. It's still worse for someone getting covid for the first time.

Looks an apt reason
Probably author is from tier1 city and his/her house is near to office so never knew the pain and effort of living away from your dear ones.
Clearly most people want to wfh forever. And most wanted to work from their preferred city even before covid but orgs used to give excuses to their employees as why they cant transfer them or allow them to work from their desired city.
During covid all orgs allowed wfh for THEIR business continuity. Where were those excuses then ? Now everyone knows we can do our job from home and perform even better, being happy and satisfied at same time but there are some corporate people who can't digest their employees happiness just because people are not renting out their properties in big cities so calling back to office.
This was never a point of discussion and if they become stringent to their policies, it will just lead to more attrition.
I encourage more and more people to WFO. That way managers will see some heads in office and will not force the ones who are WFH for WFO.
I am a bachelor(26) from a small city in Karnataka (Udupi). I would prefer working from home any day. So do most of the bachelors.
For people earning 75k-1.25l If we shift to Bengaluru, it will be a rental house or a room. The rent would be 12-15k. Travel charge from this room to office 2-3k per month. Then travelling to hometown once or twice a month would cost 3-4k. We will either have to cook or go to restaurants which would cost at least 3-4k. I won't even mention the rental deposit.
All the pollution + staying separated from the family. I would never choose that.
For people who are married, yes they would have a family of their own. They can shift to Bangalore. The HYBRID or any such nonsense doesn't work for us who hail from small cities like Hubli, Udupi, Mangaluru or Mysuru.
I guess they want you to spend and travel for the economy. As they contributed fly overs and what not, during this lockdowns.
Financial you are benefited in a short run, but in a long run consider this as scenario.
When you work from office, the nearby area got developed coz they see customers near them and they upgrade their service and invest in innovation and improvement.
And when you stop commuting, all you see is online ads and services that are well established, no one on your community or the people doing retail will be benefited.
All i am saying is that IT was one of the main reason for growth as infrastructure development was urged to be developed by weekly commuters and local retail thrived. When you take IT commute and all its expenses out then we will see rise of monopoly and just like what jio did, all ecommerce will start to provide items free or at least cost, but after some years when there is no compitition they ll rule the pricing and availability.
Probably author is either HR or some high level Manager or Director who wish to end WFH and force employees to come back to offices.
Why don't people still send faxes now that email is invented? Covid showed us there is an easier way to work without wasting time on commute and money on rent. But people in authority are having trouble adjusting to the new normal because they are set in their ways.
It's proved now that We can achieve Target by being at our own place... Then Until Employees wish to return to office... Company shouldn't force!
Kyunki sher ke munh mei khoon lag chuka hai..
If u r interested to WFO plz go n work... we majority are happy with WFH & it gives time for us spend time with family members tooo.
Why do waste time in travelling? Before covid this hybrid work culture was already there in foreign countries, most of the people they work 2-3 days from office. people love to stay with family.

See earlier also WFO was there but now folks living with parents have that being away there are many things they'll miss out, like if someone has disease, household chores(Our mothers usually dont allow us to do anything at home but sometimes we need to go ahead of it and understand they are aging and hence we need to help them out, in the household chores like preparing food{Tough part is preparing atta dough[Since it requires pressure and due to aging their power gets reduced to apply pressure]} , washing utensils/clothes, and what not.
Being around them we understand they need us but wont tell us anytime since they want that at this time we should focus on our career, but if we get the feasibility to help out as well as work from home so why not :) . Everyone has different scenarios, one might be fed up of being at home and would love to transition back to Office its required because he needs peace of mind and also going. To office creates a good habit of punctuality. And since we have to travel so we remain healthy too in the process.
I believe its better for freshers who joinned any MNC in pandemic to WFO since they need to understand a lott of things for transitioning to corporate, I believe 3-6 Months of office should be good for them(But as per their choice) understanding office life is also important.
We cant say without understanding one's responsibilities and roles that he/she should WFO/WFH its their call not ours :) so do what you like WFO/WFH and appreciate others to have chosen one out of the two

Comfort and worklife balance ! After this Covid era , even family members are reluctant and lazy to wake up early and prepare tiffin .. they asked why you are going to office 🤣
1. Lack of oxygen in office. The closed door AC rooms have lack of air I suppose. Used to get dry cough all the time. But once started work from home, never coughed.
2. Travelling time. Spending 2 hours for office travel could now be used for some personal time or learning.
3. Ability to work flexibly. Office timings force people to adhere to start and end. And we can work only during that time. But now, we can work at 3AM also from the comfort of home. Its a choice.
Dint go through all the comments so dont known if this was mentioned, but cost saving is also a big reason I believe why WFH is convenient
FYI - No completely against WFO but would like to save as much as possible right ?😉
