It is selfish, but in a good way. At the end of the day if you need a job you take what you can get. Companies don’t hesitate to lay people off when they need to, so why should you feel bad for leaving when you need to? Plus, there’s no guarantee that you will land another role, so better to take care of yourself rather than worrying about how the company would feel about your leaving.
This exactly, companies don’t think much when laying off then why should you.
Corporate world is full of greed and being selfish, and that works best in the long run.
Accepting then quitting would be selfish, but also this is a time of survival. Bridges would be burned and it may be a questionable part of your resume (may want to leave it out and accept the gap). If you need the money, do what’s best for you.
But also, consider that people talk to each other across firms. Perhaps call it a bad fit rather than ‘I never wanted to stay in the first place’.
Definitely take the job and still apply for the other firms. You gotta do what’s best for YOU!
Also, hiring at BCG is completely frozen until 2021. So you wouldn’t be able to start getting a paycheck for months.

Sometimes being the big fish in a small pond is a good thing. You might like working for this new firm! I would go for it. It fills your immediate financial needs in a job market that continues to crumble.
You should take that small gig, and keep the paycheck rolling. Sometime you just gotta be selfish and do what’s best for yourself. Why ruin your savings, when there’s somebody offering you a job.
Also you might feel a little bad that you may join this firm for a short time and leave them. DON’T, cos your boutique firm didn’t feel that way when they let you go.
People might have some clashing opinions to what I just said, but it is what it is!
Completely understand your position, but I think that’s selfish. You’re taking a spot from someone else who wants/needs that job now. If you’re confident that you will get the offers from BCG, etc, I would wait unless you need a job now. Or join the boutique and apply next year

However, my referrals recommended not to apply before June due to corona.
I now received an offer from a small firm who is not super desirable to me and I’d way rather decline and wait to apply through my referrals. But I also feel bad declining the only option that I have right now.
Would I be selfish to accept the offer but then quit in 2-3 months hoping that I would get an offer from a different firm?
