I was recently laid off but still have a few months of website time. Would you take a less-than-ideal job or try to hold out for something better? I had been applying for months (saw the writing on the wall) without success, so on one hand I think I should just take what I can get (and perhaps keep applying on the side?). On the other, I’ve already switched firms a few times and I don’t want to burn bridges, so I also would hate to accept an offer and then quit shortly afterwards. What to do?!

I lateraled from a small firm to regional big law last year. I was told that my offer was commensurate with class year (5th year). The firm recently increased first year salary, with a 5% increase for all other attorneys. My original salary was equal to the new first year salary. The difference between my new salary and a first year is now $10k. I think it is fairly obvious that the hiring partner was not truthful with me. How would you address this? Is another lateral move my only option?

Transactional junior associate in biglaw. Working for a dedicated practice group rather than in an associate pool. For the past few months, I’ve been loaned to another practice group for a good chunk of time. While the people are decent and the hours aren’t terrible, I detest the work and don’t see a future in this new practice. My main partner says it should end in the next month, but I don’t expect that to happen. Is it a terrible idea to ask to be taken off?

I’m so bad at writing the background/ facts section for briefs… it always gets heavily edited and no one is giving me constructive feedback other than “advocate more”. In contrast, my legal argument section is generally without edits. For context, first defense lit job post appellate clerkship. Is this normal?? How are 1st year litigation associates dealing with WFH? I’ve been having terrible anxiety/panic attacks, and pretty sure my billables wont exceed 110 for April. I’ve been super stressed about it and don’t know how to move on to May with the proper mindset to make up for as much time missed as possible. CA courts are still closed, and I’m worried I won’t be able to exceed (or even meet) my May goal after April.

I am a new (lateral) associate at a small firm where everyone currently works from the office. When I started, I wasn’t told specific firm hours. I’ve tried to figure out when to come and go based upon when the partners arrive and leave, but their schedules are very inconsistent. The other associates don’t have helpful guidance for me. Assuming that if I ask the partners they’ll say to use my discretion, what are reasonable hours to keep?
