I was told I was too expensive for a role, but we never even got to the salary part of the conversation. The recruiter just assumed based on my title and ghosted after one call. I would’ve gladly taken less if the work fit my goals, but I never even got the chance. Are companies really just making assumptions now and cutting people out before a real discussion?

How much room I have for negotiation, whats the fair market rate for this level?

I got an offer at Nokia, and my new manager said that she wanted to put me in the higher salary bracket however the HR insisted that we lowered the range. That caused me to receive a much lower salary than expected. Should I renegotiate even when my manager said that she tried giving me more. Does HR really play that big of a role in this?
