I work remotely from India for a U.S.-based civil engineering firm. After 3.5 years in the U.S., I transferred to India, and my salary dropped to 30% of my U.S. pay despite the same workload and late-night hours. With my U.S. qualifications and PE licensure, I want to negotiate fairer compensation while staying remote.

Anyone with similar experience—how did you successfully negotiate? What strategies worked for you? Any insights would be appreciated!

I personally would not have made that move nor would I have accepted the lower salary. I would’ve quit and looked for a new job in the U.S.

That's the price of Globalization. Salaries are localized. You won't get it back, companies are pretty strict about salary localizations. You'll see a lot of jobs posted in the US that will specify salary range for most areas, then Bay Area and NYC salaries specifically. Tech companies have been doing this forever.

I hate that companies do this because they feel that the standard of life is lower but one is still doing the same work. Very annoying. Please negotiate

Just wondering if the 30% drop due to cost of living in India and as a result in line with salary struck. I’m sure you know I’m just trying to educate myself. Look forward to hearing back on this
Best of Luck☮️

You should read OP Post again, pay did not drop 30% it dropped TO 30% of wage earned in US.,.. not unusual at all for India workers

Sounds like my experience with being a US citizen working for Infosys. When my position (ERP admin) was outsourced to them, I didn't want to work for them, but had no choice. I asked for an increase in pay, and they agreed, as long as I moved across the country, with my family (glorified desktop support). After I got my Master's degree, they moved me back to where I once lived, and refused to pay the relocation costs, then tried to cut my pay by 20%, to move into a CIRT Security position. They kept trying to not pay for hours work, until I found another job and left.

Hi, I had finished my technical and managerial round on May 25th and 26th with PWC. The manager did mention that there would be another in-person round in the PWC Bangalore office. Although the first 2 rounds went well, there has been no further response from HR. Is this a normal delay or should I think I didn't make it. Any thoughts?

I have worked in municipal government for almost 17 years. I love what I do as an Inspector, but the environment is toxic, and administration horrible. I have an opportunity to go into the private sector side, as well a second interview for another municipality doing same job. Private sector job will pay 35,000 more but will be 3 hrs away my husband is in law enforcement and can’t leave due to his position. Concerns are: private sector and when recession hits, it’s construction, away from hubby

I’m 3 months into a new job where I work for a global tech company, and I want to ask for a pay review from my manager at the 6 month mark when I pass probation.
I know I’m going above and beyond my responsibilities as I’m not just managing projects, but I’ve also set up a global PMO governance board and have identified gaps within other teams where I’m assisting with the solution.

Is it acceptable for me to be asking this from my manager, and if so how do I raise this?

How do you best leverage a job offer when you don’t want to leave? In the running for a VP job (higher level than now) that pays $70k higher than what I currently make. I want to ask for more money, but don’t want them to see me as a flight risk or that I am not loyal anymore. Or my bigger fear is they’ll say they cannot offer me any more and then I feel like I have egg on my face. Any tips for delicately balancing this?
