I have the opportunity to exit to a Product Manager role at a PE-backed software company (noname co w ~$5-10B rev). Pay is at $150k base. Seems like an interesting industry. As someone who is interested in public interest law (open to impact litigation or policy work), does it make sense to clerk in state court -- trial level -- and if so, for how long? Are these clerkships only useful for becoming a state court judge down the line or can they open doors to other paths?

I’m in-house at a small company (60 people), started right out of law school about 5 years ago. We had a legal team of 5 then. Everyone has left and we just hired a new GC. I went from $70k to $100k a little over a year ago. I am expecting an offer from a firm doing business law work but think this might be an opportunity to go to my current employer and ask for a significant raise, with new offer in hand. I received a call for Engagement Manager position with AWS. Even though I have the JD for the same, it appears kind of cluttered, with lots of Agile flavour thrown in, hence reaching out to the audience to understand what exactly this role entails?

I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?
