We do interims throughout the year. I use the assessments to guide instruction. For example, we did the speaking and listening interim and they bombed it. I found short kids news podcasts and developed questions for them based on them. We listen to the 5 minute podcast and answer the questions/ identify the main idea every day. Their scores shot up!
I embed that question format into my regular Summative assessments throughout the year.
HSET1: Exactly. We don’t stop and do a review before standardized tests. They’ve seen questions sprinkled in throughout the year that mimic the format and apply to the standards through our texts. The only exception I make is a few timed reads so the kids know how much time they have on the ACT.

Ok! I’m loving that idea! Actually, ELPAC’s last week is NOW and listening happens to be the last test! I’m going to try that exercise!!!
Kid Nuz and The Ten News are the ones I use.
Scholastic has materials for ELA and they are terrific. Standardized test prep is really comprehension practice and gives us an opportunity to reinforce writing skills. Unpopular opinion, but it’s an important addition to my lessons.
