Hey guys. I have an interview with EY Parthenon M&A Finance coming up. My recruiter said it will be an interview to assess my M&A/F&A Skills. Is that just a long winded way to say a case interview? Also does anyone have any tips on the interview process? Financial analyst here with experience in ERP implementation and working for the consulting line of business for my current company. Lol at the "team player" people. You managers are the ones that people complain about on here. Seriously if Im doing real client work and it's not helping my utilization you are damn sure I'll be taking to someone
Threads like this make me grateful that I'm not at EY
The snitches get stitches mentality is why shit project managers are still employed despite continued failure to scope projects correctly and run them effectively
If you don't speak up, you're enabling these things.
“Team player” lol, kool aid drinking weak bitches. You weak ass managers should be standing up to the partners and telling them that your team needs more hours to close out their shit project.
Not only are you weak leaders, you are in direct violation of policy (not to mention any “values” your firm has) when you step on the throats of your people.
So remember this when you get lit up by Ethics and HR, that you did it to yourselves.
Oh, and make sure to try out that BS “team player” story with Ethics and HR when they’re firing your dumb ass - see how well it goes over.
Be a team player and don't charge time. You'd rather be remembered for that, than for being a snitch who makes his/her manager look bad.
25% of the Ms on this thread are non-pricks.
Ask for the nonbillable code. Not your fault - don’t eat hours.
Shit on your M all you want but s/he is likely acting as per the SM/P's direction and being a team player themselves.
@M3 If that's the case, those hours should be charged to a BD code. Working without recording hours anywhere doesn't help anyone.
Speak up. I did this last year and it definitely didn’t help me at all
Could it be that you drag ass on getting your work done timely that caused the budget being dusted?
OP the short version is you haven’t given us enough detail for us to give you balanced guidance about what to do in this specific case.
Get out of the bowl, pick this up with your counselor (give him/her all the background and detail) and work off that advice, not the knee jerk reactions of a bunch of anonymous strangers on FB.
Seriously now, do what I’m telling you.
So I reached out to the senior manager with this concern based on most of the responses I received above. She agreed that this is against the policy and that I should continue charging the time on the client code. I would suggest everyone to keep charging hours instead of eating them.
He isn't saying anything about where I should charge them. He is only telling me that he cannot give me more hours. I have been working late evenings and even weekends but I cannot charge all that time. There were some inefficiencies that occurred from the management which increased the amount of work at the last moment.
This is a violation of ethics and against firm policy. Call the ethics hot line if you are uncomfortable approaching partner or counselor.
This thread makes me really sad
Speak up, OP. You cannot enable your manager’s incompetence to the point that he gets promoted to Senior Manager. It’s not your fault s/he doesn’t know how to fucking plan an effort.
At BCG we charge weekly, there is no “eating hours”... I honestly don’t understand the concept at all. You’re salaried, what difference does it make?
P1... that is the irony of all these discussions - it is just internal #'s and calcs - no true impact. The firm prob isn't making more money as billing is capped at budget. The individual isn't paid more or less based upon what they bill. I think there is perception on individual level the diff between a 95>100>105 utilization is going to significantly impact a bonus or promo when in reality they are all "good enough" and your impact/value to the firm as observed and supported by key decision makers will be the differentiators. For upper mgmt, the way internal project costs are accrued and thus their profitability measured are based upon the hrs charged to the project (despite the cost of resources fixed on salary) creates the pressure to keep project billings by team close to the original plan so expected margin comes in at plan.
