Anyone have experience working CWX side of Facebook (Meta) ? These are the full time contract roles that potentially turn into permanent roles directly with Facebook (Meta). Had a recruiter reach out and offering me comparable TC and such, just curious if anyone has experience in these roles and success/failure of transitioning into permanent role. Thanks in advance!

What’s the stigma of tech consulting?
From what I understand many strategy firms consider TC to be fundamentally different because it deals with IT and systems, and therefore it is looked down upon. They would rather hire someone from industry and train them rather than having to retrain someone from TC who thinks they know consulting.
Technology is influencing traditional strategy more and more meaning businesses are utilizing technology strategies to drive value so I’d say your notion of a stigma with tech consultants is super unfounded
Second M1. I disagree with this “stigma”, but I think it is dependent on the experience. I’m a tech cons but very involved in advisory with clients on governance, architecture, roadmap etc. Analytics continues to become a forefront in company decisions so that’s helped me be involved more in the high level advisory discussions rather than just in the weeds of coding
Strategy is bs. You don't want to move there. Focus on Tech. You'll have far better clients
“retrain someone from TC who thinks they know consulting”
Wait, the “C” in TC doesn’t stand for consulting??? And here I thought I was consulting clients on how to optimize new tech systems while delivering products with tangible roi. I just don’t know what I will tell people when asked what I do for a living anymore 🙄
SC1, what you mean is that every business decision that you have been privy to is based on tech. You are proving OP's point. I'm a former tech consultant turned strategy consultant and I wouldn't say there isn't necessarily a stigma. However, many believe that tech consulting doesn't prepare people well for strategy consulting and I agree
I did this without an MBA. It’s not impossible. That said, it was something I deliberately worked on everyday for like 2 years.
Ultimately, we’re all tech consultants this day in age. As someone hired into strategy, I sure do a lot of work in tech (and love it) :). No stigma with TC, your story should just be that you’d like to use your functional and tech experience to support higher level strategy initiatives
hunting and recruiting during the business school process?
Do you mean ops/implementation of tech versus strategy projects?
I feel you as I was in that situation where you are designated as a ‘ technical person’ and they will go so far to label you as an IT person
I started with ERP before moving to category management
One thing I will say is that the change is easier in industry than consulting
During the Mba you have to deliberately pick a specialization which is strategy rather than generic ones like project management or general Mba
You can target the niche consulting places like BCG, McKinsey etc
What about a specialization such as finance which is more quantitative? Would that tell a story that you can make recommendations based off of metrics like revenue modeling and due diligence?
OP- can you please describe the stigma you experience? Also tech cons here
I tried to help my TC friends over to MC but hasnt been successful. I think there should be a track record of gradual shift and exposure to strategy during preMBA to make the transition smoother.
I love the TV stigma... Because good luck operating any aspect of your company for more than 2 weeks with your enterprise systems completely fubar
Talk about doing tech strategy work ... a lot of the top firms do a lot of tech cases now ..
Did this w/o MBA. Had to be willing to take a step back and accept that I had to learn a whole new skill set. Beyond that, did a lot of case prep and honing my story. I think interviewers appreciated that I had lots of client experience and knew some general consulting ropes but was coachable and accepted that I didnt know it all
I’m in Deloitte’s Tech Strategy practice, a subset of Strategy & Operations. No MBA. Feel free to DM if you have questions
Hi! Do you have any advice on this you can provide here? I’d DM you but I’m too new of a user
