If the ad agency from Mad Men were brought into the modern day, who would survive today's company culture? I feel like Peggy would flourish but would any of the dudes?

I think Roger and the media dude would do ok.
Roger would do great leading a global piece of business.

like

I just rewatched the whole series. Roger was nothing but an empty suit by the end. They all would've been kicked out of the industry in the past 10 years.

It’s funny to imagine all the men on that show being forced to wfh during covid.

Yeah, but danglin' Pryce might still be warm when they discovered him.

the men would absolutely thrive. i haven’t been at a single agency where there weren’t men just like them (but less talented) at the top.

peggy is too precious with her ideas and wouldn’t succeed. especially because she’s a woman.

idk if any of them could come up with scrappy social activations tho, which seems to be the majority of the work we do these days. no one wants to make ads or build brands anymore. so maybe they wouldn’t even be in advertising.

People used to always ask oh is working in advertising just like mad men? And the answer is still sadly yes

likefunny

I’ll bet on Joan.

like

Thanks man

Ken Cosgrove would still do great. He was polite and charming in a not-obnoxious way, and he treated everyone the same, both clients and colleagues. Plus he secretly wrote science fiction on the side, and that would be more of an asset in the 21st century

like

Top five:

5. Stan - he’ll never be more than a mid-level art director but he’ll always be employed

4. Harry - like you know this mf’s LinkedIn would be insufferable

3. Ken - immensely likable for clients

2. Peggy - She was always ahead of the curve, would thrive

1. Roger - the quintessential, timeless, “what exactly does this guy do?” man in leadership

like

Lmao imagining Harry’s LinkedIn posts 😭

Weirdly enough, I think Pete would do well. He always seemed to be ahead of the curve on things

like

I remember an episode where their client wanted to disassociate themselves from their Black shoppers, and Pete was flummoxed, because he didn't understand why they wouldn't capitalize on that popularity.

like

White, straight men lol not super different than today

Most of the account guys could hack it. Cutler, Roger, Pete, Bob all have a future. Joan for sure. Peggy, maybe. Stan, nope. Don wouldn’t last a week of course.

Yes, because they were client centric and 360 idea men (backed by women).

like

Don and Peggy were not client-centric.

Harry 100%

like

They all hated Harry because he was the media geek. He would probably be the CEO now. His curiosity about technology and innovation to constantly improve and test the levers behind creative that drive agency and client success…that curiosity would serve him well and he would pass the others on the ladder. Look at the holdcos. Most of them are becoming media driven and media folks are finally getting into the highest levels and on the boards of these companies.

"finally"? Your hand is showing.

all the women would be awesome and the men suck! AMIRITE ?! Hey yooo
