I pretty regularly get LinkedIn messages from people I don’t know, just say there’s a role you think you’d be great for and want to learn more about the culture. If its a good place to work it shouldn’t be too hard to find someone happy to help.
I’m shocked at how many actual jobs I’ve gotten from cold calling and cold emails. Email anyone you want but with a little common sense. Not the CEO, not someone too junior. More like department heads or senior level managers.
Cold-calling almost never works. It’s not impossible, but you’re looking at maybe a 10% chance anyone actually looks at your stuff. Sure, some people say it worked for them, but for most people it doesn’t — the odds are super low.
Having any kind of connection to the hiring team is basically a golden ticket. If you know someone there, reach out. If they don’t move you forward, it’s usually because the role or team isn’t a great fit, not because they didn’t see your work.
And if you’ve got a strong résumé and portfolio, trust that they did see it. If they didn’t reach out, something just didn’t click.
For big companies or big accounts (Facebook, Google, etc.), tons of qualified people apply and never get a shot. It’s just supply and demand — you’re one drop in a huge pool. The real challenge is finding a way to stand out.
if you really want a shot and you don't have tons of experience and company names to drop - use mentorship programs. find one that have mentors that work at place you like. pay to get them to train you but at the same time they can network you.
that's the real secret - its been around thousand of years and still works. GL.
The department head if the role isn’t too jr.
Just depends! Sometimes you reach out to ppl you know & it’s no response. I think so many ppl are told to use this strategy. Flip side is I know ppl who were referred & still didn’t land the role.
yep you are right. why not try? You can refer or get referred and the rest is out of anyone's hands
It’s ideal if you have some sort of connection with the contact as well and can use as a ‘way in’ in your message. For example, same college or worked for the same employer previously. If connection is a mutual, I would not name drop - I would ask that person to connect you

Reach out to talent acquisition/recruiters on linkedin and share your 1) resume 2) desired jobs 3) willingness to commute x days per week or as needed. Let them help you if they can. Be patient though, there is high volume of outreach right now.
