Detroit. Those who laugh haven’t been there recently.
Most of the cities listed in this thread a MCOL - if you are really remote find a cool loft in Detroit and if/when you have kids move right up the road to Grosse Pointe.
The airport is world class, a Delta hub, with direct international flights all over the planet.
Check it out, seriously.
Hahaha. I live in Detroit now and would never recommend it to anyone if they could live someplace else
I'm moving to Charleston which fits most of these

Found a place downtown walking distance to a couple of nice restaurants. Has great potential for rental if we get boring and move to Mt pleasant ;)
Dallas is an excellent choice. It’s still relatively low cost, has a major airport. And it’s growing big time- certainly immigrant friendly and great place for a single person
Fort worth is awesome. Low key, very friendly, more western/cowboy vibe than Dallas. My SO and I love it there but most of the work was in Dallas. Traffic and commuting between can be hard. DFW is right between them though and you would be approaching from the lower traffic side.
Not sure about diversity there, I think Dallas probably has them beat on that point.
Philly!!!!
Florida or Texas
Beach towns south of Tampa.
Atlanta, Dallas, Tampa, Houston, Phoenix, Charlotte
Someplace warm
Pittsburgh, Miami, cities in Texas / NC
Pittsburgh is another re-emerging gem if you don’t mind the cold
Vegas
Chicago, Raleigh
Phoenix, Atlanta, Dallas
Cleveland, Ohio!
Tampa
anywhere that's not low lying... so avoid st Pete Beach, downtown Tampa is low lying as well.. the Tampa burbs however,....... Wesley Chapel, land o lakes, Brandon, citrus Park, Carrollton, etc etc...
I would choose Richmond, VA because I love my home state. The COL is very reasonable, and it's driving distance to lots of great cities in VA, the Chesapeake Bay, hiking trails, etc. Richmond has solid concert venues; good restaurants, bars, breweries, and cafes; and a surprisingly great art museum.
It's not next to a major airport (Richmond international is only named so because of flights to like the Bahamas, but you can definitely connect via Charlotte and other major airports or drive to Dulles for a true international airport).
