If you’re a personal injury lawyer and you work for a firm, do you make anything extra (aside from salary and bonuses) on the settlement of a client that you personally referred?

Fee structures vary from firm to firm but yes, you generally get a percentage of a settlement if you bring in a client. 1/3 or 1/4 of the total fee is pretty common.

33% of the fee seems to be the norm. I worked at a firm that gave us 40% of the fee for any cases we brought in.

Look for 5% of anything you settle - it’s out there and worth it

So if I ask manager to give me permanent wfh will they agree ?

Hi all, new-ish associate here at a Virginia firm - quick question: if a pleadings filing deadline for a GDC case ends up being on a Saturday or Sunday, does that mean that it can actually be filed by that following Monday since the court and clerk's office will be open then?

For Plaintiff's attorneys, how big is your caseload? What kind of cases are the majority of them and are they in suit? I am currently handling 150+ mostly MVAs and premise liability cases, just about all in suit, (on top of about 10 DUIs and other small traffic matters) and I feel like I'm drowning and looking to jump ship. I’m currently discontent with my income.
(3rd year. Salary=80k and no performance incentive. I brought in $1.4mm AFTER partners claimed over half of fees on my big cases.)

Any good or bad firm culture to speak of?
Is it impossible to actually earn a respectable incentive bonus?
Am I going to have some partner come cut me out of any cases where I might actually make a solid fee?

I give my cell phone to all clients routinely. However, there are always 1 to 2 clients who abuse this and it seems as soon as their cases are over I find a new one and it is making me rethink. I hate to do this because 98% do not abuse it and I like being connected to my people. Thoughts??
