The way to go is work 25 in gov for the pension. Then go private last leg if your career when earning potential is highest.
Well you won’t make partner with that attitude. Sounds like you aren’t willing to bet on yourself.

I think what you’re missing here is voluntary vs involuntary separation.
A VAST majority of the ~99% that don’t make partner leave by choice. If you take voluntary separations out of the equation, you’ve got a significantly better chance than 1% to make PPMD

Post the models for us to evaluate.
I was in the military for ten years and did the same calculations between staying in uniform, moving to another gov org, or going to civilian tech. I’m now in Bay Area tech.
…Because the odds of getting paid 150+/yr as a GS/SES are relatively similar to making partner. It’s a much slower growth curve that is not very dependent on your actual merit. This alone has a mental toll that you should factor in.
Unless you are joining the military and can collect pension at exactly 20yrs of service, you also won’t be able to collect government pension until retirement age anyways.
I would also say there are many roles posted that you will never hear back from. I threw my application in for gov jobs I was overqualified for and never heard back.

Probably good from a WLB perspective too
The mental death of working for the government will be costly. The scenarios you plan will change with time.
So focusing on your skills, and taking on the change/volatility that is present in the market will let you have more creative freedom, chances to jump/increase earnings and grow. I’ll bet you’ll make a lot more in private orgs if you give your A game, than coast in the government.
What’s the point of apparently making more money, when you don’t live to the fullest?
Equity is meant for retention, and it’s the base salary/bonus that matters. I’d recommend working your way up in the industry, while growing your network & skills in case of job instability.
So first off…150k TC government employee? My analysts make more than g14s do.
Yes, fdic/ncua/cfpb currently posting for roles at that level. And I’d bet your analyst is doing 70+ hr/wk…
Wait don’t govt employees cap at 170 something
Yeah something like that, but that doesn’t include locality, perf bonus and overtime.

Nobody said that your salary is the only money you can earn. Do more. You’re not going to get laid off if you’re in public sector consulting by the way
I.E. GPS consulting *relatively* safer for recession?
