I’m 29 and I’m already being treated like a senior in the trading world, and frankly, it’s terrifying. Most of the people around me are 23-year-old math prodigies who think a long-term investment is anything held for more than four hours. I’m one bad quarter away from being too old to keep up with the stress and the screen time. Is there a graceful way to transition into a more adult side of finance, or is it all downhill after 30?

Spouse was a trader for 23 yrs; he retired at 40 and was considered a dinosaur. He got bored and started a business completely different from his trading career (substance abuse treatment centers). Well, maybe not so different.

It is possible to transition into a more sustainable part of finance by focusing on roles that value experience, strategy, and relationship management over sheer speed. Areas like portfolio management, risk, compliance, or client advisory often reward judgment and long-term thinking rather than nonstop screen time. Age is not a barrier if you leverage your expertise and shift into roles that match your strengths and lifestyle priorities.

Just found out that end of the year I will be promoted from analyst directly to VP and since it’s such a large jump I’ll be the lowest paid VP in asset management at only $135k TC. Should I stay it out and wait for TC to align or take the promotion and jump ship bc I will likely get paid more elsewhere given how recruiters/other companies eat up hiring recently promoted ppl from other firms?

I'm in finance/tech FPA, looking to go back to the defense industry for a 25% increase in TC. But wanted to see if I should leverage the new salary with current company to see if they'll match.

Background: got a promotion at current company that didn't come with sufficient increase . After stating my case I was told it would be evaluated next October, which is what prompted the initial job search.

Current TC 103K [88/15], offer 125k base [+discretionary bonus].

Hi everyone, I'm new to Canada and want to start my career here in the Financial and Banking industry. I have passed the CFA level 2 exam and was wondering if I have to complete the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) as most of the job postings here mention about it. I saw that if someone passes at least the CFA level 1 exam then the requirement of CSC is exempted. Can anyone enlighten me about this? As the CSC exam costs above 1000 CAD, I wanted to be sure if I need it before investing behind it.
