This is the job. Identifying talent and helping them grow in the places they lack. I’ve found surrounding myself with super talented people only makes my life easier. Perhaps I’m missing the downside here?
That’s a good point. I was maybe thinking how that could prevent me from moving up. But I think I prefer to have fun working with someone I like than moving up faster and not feeling I am being supported by the right partner.
I agree with CD1, this seems like an excellent candidate to consider. The qualities that you described are hard to come by, and if you don't help this person grow it's only a matter of time before someone else notices their talents and snatches them up.
Great point! I appreciate your perspective.
How does one “sometimes lack experience”?
Seems like the right boxes are checked. Decision making prowess is what you are there for.
Makes sense. I wonder if the age difference could also play a role. We did work super well together in the last project.
It depends how quickly you’re trying to get promoted to the next level. If you’re happy as a CD and want to make great work, then the partner sounds like a good match. But if you’re eager to get to the next level I’d recommend against it because you won’t get bumped as a team.

As some one who has been around a while and has witnessed a lot of CD growth. The experience level between a 3rd year CD and a 1st year ACD is not a whole lot in the grand scheme of things. If they are creative, talented, and above all things great to work with it seems like a fine choice.
Didn't you have to start somewhere?
It won’t slow you down to work with someone more junior. It might do the opposite.
You’re clearly the senior one.
Y’all get partners?
Two different avenues… one promotes better, stronger work (in theory), the other in the short term is career trajectory (in terms of speed).
However, there’s nothing to say with the former that you’ll be better off on the latter.
A non-answer but something to consider.
Me personally, I’d choose a better creative if the experience is marginal. After you’ve been in the business for 10 years, experience is just a number.
