Crossroads Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. I have been with the organization almost 6 years and have accomplished achievement of my MSL (Masters Strategic Leadership) and LOVE the organization…BUT…I am not having any success in moving into a new position…my interviews are great experiences but it seems to be a pattern of not being selected yet encouraged to continue applying…received information from a mentor/manager to ask for candid feedback…when is enough…ENOUGH??

I would give Accenture a longer chance. The bench time is not ideal but the staff aug / undesirable project is not surprising. I’m not sure if slalom does staff aug but I’m sure they do lots of undesirable projects too. Consulting can be very reactive so the firm hires you with a pipeline in mind but they ultimately staff the projects they win, which may be very very different from what they (and you) expected. Point is, you may have the same or similar experience at slalom. Anecdotally, I would see a higher percentage of experienced hires get placed on undesirable projects because the longer tenured employees had a network of people they could use to avoid these projects. The easy solution was to staff the new people on them because they have no grounds to complain (“you’re new and you’re already complaining?!? Hmph.”). Not saying it’s right, it’s just not uncommon.
If your reputation is good with Accenture, keep trying to network and get on something you want. I don’t think it will matter long term if you do jump either, just you may end up in a similar spot.
Pro
This. When I first started at my firm I was put on a large special firm project that had nothing to do with my specialty (I literally read mortgages and notices of foreclosure all day for six months). I’ve done so many different things since then and ended up where I wanted. It just takes time and networking to get yourself onto the engagements you want or the groups you want in. Never give it up after less than a year unless you want to switch professions completely.
The reason I chose Accenture was because they are more reputable and I could move to different cities to live if I wanted while Slalom is more local based.
I don't want to look like a job hopper. I have a 2, 1 year stints. Is it worthwhile to reach back out to Slalom to see if they filled the role I interviewed for?
Do you think competition will be fierce? When do you think places will reopen hiring?
Call center work be like
Hahaha not on the call center project, Thank God.
I think you should reach out to them because I don’t see the downside of it, I also understand how miserable it can be at a new job that is not what you had expected. Just be prepared to explain the reasons.
Enthusiast
Be prepared to suck it up, but you have to move if you are unhappy. Staying in a job that sucks is a waste of you life. That’s one/90 if your lucky and you should make every second count.
normal and yes during covid rare - slalom has a differnet local bus model -
Just know that your experience at slalom is directly tied to the economic outlook of the local market youre hired into. Example: If you got hired to the Houston market there’s an 80% chance you will be staffed on a oil and gas project and that industry is suffering at the moment so projects might be less than desirable. Or you might be on a staff aug project from another market.
Slalom paints a great picture that you’ll have WLB and work on exciting stuff but sometimes it’s not the case ...just like ACN.
