Vanguard. Morgan Stanley. I can help with either if you are interested.
I'm in Cleveland, Ohio.
What do you like about the big box firms? Why not RIA?
The development program route is what I like about the big box. As for the RIA's, I've been unsuccessful finding the right team opportunity to start with. I'm not opposed to the RIA route by any means though
Are you taking like an FA training program
Yes. Goal is to become a Certified Financial Planner. I'm currently a candidate to sit for the exam.
Other than the CFP certification do you have any licenses?
BofA/ML - the FSA role, salary + bonus + great benefits and PTO. You sit in a branch, no outside selling. You call on and service bank customers. You get series 7 + 66.
Wells Fargo - Premier Banker
Chase - Private Client Advisor
I don't know as much about the other 2. I'm trying to get into the FSA position. It's a good stepping stone. BofA is in the middle of a hiring freeze however.
Like you, I career changed when I was 31/32. Best decision ever!
Here are some thoughts -
Have you explored pursuing a Residency program through some of the RIAs? It would require a move and 2-3 year commitment (paid), but by the end they will help find you a position within their firm or another firm.
These residency programs are super competitive. Not sure if you have a family and/or other roots in Ohio that would make hard to move potentially 2 times. Doesn’t work for everyone, but nice to know.
As for big box firms, the only one I would suggest is Fidelity. Stay 5-ish years (mainly for full vesting on their 17% company contribution into 401k), then you can network out to an RIA of your choice or stay at Fidelity.
Consider, if you haven’t already, joining your local FPA chapter and attend the events they host. Great way to network.
