What is your current revenue? A 10x valuation used to be almost a given but now I think it depends on the market you are targeting and potential in that market. If you've got $1.3 million in bookings, or close to it, then I think you can justify the valuation you've set. I'm guessing you're under that mark and that's why a VC had told you you're too high. And contacts that close post-raise don't really help you much here, except to maybe show interest and opportunity. In this market, investors I've met care more about what you've actually done vs. what you say you could do.
I was a founding partner in a company that we sold for $11 million, and we were at about $1 in ARR. We also had a SAFEs structured in our early investments and the dilution that I ended up seeing, meant that only our investors and the primary founder get paid anything meaningful, so I'd be careful with that.
