I'm about to graduate from the University of Birmingham with what should be a borderline distinction in Bioinformatics. Looking at the current UK job market, though, it feels like almost every MSc-level bioinformatics role is asking for either a PhD or 2+ years of industry experience.
For those already working in the field, is this actually the reality, or am I looking in the wrong places?.Are there particular roles, companies, or strategies that helped you get your first position?

I started in big law M&A 8 months ago and I’m super miserable. I don’t love the work or the stress/anxiety that comes with deal work. I also feel like I’m not picking up on it as fast as my peers/able to juggle as many deals at once as the firm would like. I’m thinking about making a switch to in house work, preferably commercial contact work. Seems like the hours and stress would be more manageable in that type of role. Any advice or insight?
