There must be some transferable skills or past exposure to marketing that make you prefer this career path, apart from it being less stressful. You could try framing it in a more positive way. For example: I’ve noticed I’m really good at X in marketing, and I want to build on that strength.
You’re not overthinking. From a recruiter view, that move can make a lot of sense and it’s not a step backward if framed well. Moving from SDR to product marketing is about shifting skills, not escaping pressure. Be clear about what you’re moving toward, not what you’re running from, and connect your sales insight to how it helps marketing win.
