I have an initial recruiter phone interview with Square Thursday. Is it it just a phone call or is it a video call and they didn’t specify. If it’s a video call what’s the dress code like? I’m coming from consulting so all my interviews were in suits. Any tips to get past the recruiter phone screen?

Tricky! That’s a big pay rise though so might be worth it. You can always leave on good terms so you can boomerang if needed.

OP just left EY bc of this reason. Was in same practice as you as it sounds. Do it!
What you’re saying about the downsides are definitely true. That said, consider joining EY again in case something bad happens to the other firm. Think about the upsides, including a 300k comp.
Depending on your age and what stage you are in your career, this can be a good move. It may be worth the risk.
Glad I’m not crazy. My wife makes plenty, but not quite as much as I do at the moment. We have a young baby as well so there are those costs as well. I think we could live off my wife’s income once our non mortgage debts are paid off.
A few questions can help you decide:
Can you handle the job at the boutique? Going from 200k at EY to 300k at boutique sounds like they want you to be a partner, principal, MD or other senior person whose primary job is to sell a few million $ worth of work per year, possibly while building out a capability from nearly nothing. Is that right? If so, can you deliver on that work? Can you deliver without the brand name, contacts (clients to cross sell), track record (case studies) and resources (institutional knowledge, old decks, etc) of EY?
What are your career goals? If you want to leave consulting in the next year or two to focus on your family, staying where you are could give you a cleaner resume, better brand and more bandwidth with which to find a great exit. If you want to stay in consulting long term, then consider if the new path will be better long term.
Thank you for the detailed response. My understanding is that I will come in at an experienced manager level. With that said, the I will have very limited sales goals. Project delivery excellence is a bigger portion of my comp.
The next level up, I expect sales to become very important. Additionally, I want to stay in consulting for a long time and, specifically, in the industry/sector this firm works in.
